My Tuning History
How I Settled on the Devil’s Interval
MARK KAPLAN
OCT 29, 2025
I started on violin. All perfect 5ths. Then I played guitar. Standard tuning. All fourths except that one third. Then I took care of that third and switched to P4. All fourths straight across. I loved it. Then I saw the light. Flat 5 Tuning. The Devil’s Interval. Perfection.
The tritone is the perfect knife for splitting the octave exactly down the middle. Each string pair becomes a perfectly balanced harmonic mirror.

Beauty and perfection exactly where the rules say you aren’t supposed to look. The devil indeed.
